
(Senior) SAP Development Manager
The SAP Development Manager's role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities
related to the design, development, and implementation of enterprise applications. The
SAP Development Manager is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading
existing systems and applications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
* Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill
end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues.
* Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency, and then
develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems.
Acquisition & Deployment
* Manage the development and deployment of new applications, systems software,
and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
* Research and make recommendations on software products and services in support
of procurement and development efforts.
* Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration
for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
* Ensure that any new software integration into company systems meets functional
requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
Operational Management
* Manage day-to-day activities of a team of highly competent SAP developers, setting
technical direction and code quality standards.
* Coordinate and supervise offshore development efforts, enforcing functional
policies, procedures, and quality assurance best practices
* Identify and resolve program errors.
* Provide technical leadership and guidance to project managers and programmers
working on development project teams.
* Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application
software.
* Accurately estimate development time and coordinate/develop work and project plans
* Interact regularly with Management to communicate status on milestones and impacts of technical hurdles.
* Effectively interact with all IT staff members, including programming staff, application consulting, application services, system users, business leaders and managers
* Play an active role in key architecture and implementation decisions
* Prepare, establish, and monitor budgets.
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required
Formal Education
* Four-year college diploma or university degree in computer systems design or
computer science, and/or 5-10 years equivalent work experience.
Knowledge & Experience
* 5 - 10 years direct experience in software development and/or programming design
and systems management.
* Proven experience in overseeing the direction, development, and implementation
of software solutions.
* Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies.
* Extensive experience in one or more of the following SAP areas: SAP ABAP, Data
Dictionary, IDOC message processing, ABAP Object programming, SAP PI (XI)
technologies, SAP ERP modules (SD, MM, LO, FI, CO), SAP Portal and associated
technologies.
* Good project management skills and/or substantial exposure to project-based work
structures, project lifecycle models, etc.
* Knowledge of database design and file management techniques.
* Superior leadership, communication, negotiation, and conflict management skills
* Experience managing teams of 10-15 FTEs and oversight of 20+ personnel (FTEs,
contractors, consultants)
* Language skills: fluent English, German, one other European language desirable.
